Christal | Styled Session

If you haven’t met Christal, you’re missin out… true story.  Christal & I met almost 2 yrs ago through our office job, and we instantly clicked through our mutual interest of… shopping! (and sushi, of course.)

Whether they’re friends or kids from a ministry outreach, Christal is always taking care of others… always. And that’s one of the things that makes her awesome… her heart. She’s probably one of the friendliest people in the world… if Christal tells you she’s shy, don’t believe her! : )

A lover of all things vintage, Christal insisted on incorporating that theme throughout her session. So. much. fun. (Shoutout & thanks goes to Steph, Marlene, and Meredyth for the props!)

Isn’t Christal just gorgeous?!

Work it! ; )

Loved playing with the shadows here…

The apricot and lavender colors went perfectly with her dress!

Ahhhmazing light!

We were racing against the sun at the end of the session, but I am loving the grainy film effect of these last ones!

I think these two are my absolute faves!!!

HUGE thanks to Brittney for coming along to be the reflector-holder, bike-tester, hair-fixer, and pose-directioner! (Did I miss anything?) : )

Kate + Friends

This was such a fun shoot!

Kate is graduating (in a month!) and I was able to shoot her senior pics!  She brought along a few friends; Rebekah and Megan are previous roommates, and Angie is her best friend from back home in Canada.

Here are just a few pics from our awesome afternoon downtown and at the beach…

Christal Ortiz - So cute! Love it

M. Nicole, the Conductor.

This kid, i mean, young woman has made my list of people I love to be around.  I can have a serious conversation with her, or be completely cray… you know what i’m sayin : ) I’m pretty sure we laughed and cracked jokes 98% of the shoot. What can I say? Most of the time, we are being kids, because life’s too short to grow up ; )

Some of her new friends call her Nicole, I still call her Michelle… because that’s her name. 2 years ago, Michelle was my very first “photoshoot”! Even before I had taken a photography class and knew I wanted to get into photography. And…. she came back. for more!

Michelle, thanks for being awesome and having faith in me, even before I knew what my passion in life would be : ) I’ll holla atchoo in a few days… can’t wait for your recital!

Sister Sister.

My sister, Rachel went to Atlanta with me a week ago for Jasmine Star: The Fix, and we did a session on Tuesday morning before we left for home.

At The Fix, Jasmine stressed that photographers need to step out of their comfort zone. One of my comfort zones is shooting during the Golden Hour (an hour after sunrise / an hour before sunset).  Originally, I was planning on shopping during the day on Tuesday (surprise, surprise), shooting right before sunset, then heading home.  But, I decided to change my plan, and shoot around 11am. And I absolutely loved learning to work more with intense sunlight and harsh shadows.

And, in keeping with “trying new things”, I added a tilt-shift effect to a few images in my post-processing routine. I think I love it! : )

Anyway, here is Rachel. Modeling an outfit put together by yours truly! (I might have even gotten her into my addiction with blazers…) And yes, she cut off all her hair. “It’ll grow back.” She crazy… n stuff. Ha!  But, I have to say, she rocks it! Dontcha think?

Kathleen Clipper - Love these, Rebekah! You did an awesome job stepping out of your comfort zone. Your sister is definitely a natural blazer-wearer :-)

Christal-June - Dude, you are so awesome. Not to mention, your sister is FIERCE! See what stepping out does ;)

Jasmine Star: The Fix & Atlanta.

The beginning of this week was quite eventful. Why??? Because I was in Atlanta!

Jasmine Star  is visiting several large cities across the US, talking to photographers about how to make the most of their business.  When I heard about The Fix, I jumped at the opportunity to go!

I learned sooo much during those 3 and 1/2 hours with Jasmine and about 200 other photographers. I frantically took notes (about 5 pages, front and back!) during the presentation. Struggles, determination, goals, and “breaking the mold” are just a few topics she touched on.

One thing that really made me think was when Jasmine talked about her response to the question “Why do you do what you do?” Her answer? “Photography gives me a voice and liberates me to do what I want to do.”  That really hit home for me, and made me realize that it is so true! If you know me, you know I am most “in my element” just chillin’, observing how other people act and re-act. I’ve always been weird like that. : )

And this may sound corny, but I really do feel like photography “gives me a voice.”  Through images, I can tell stories, show emotion, and capture a moment forever. And that’s part of the reason I absolutely love photography.

Without further ado, here are a few pics from my trip to Atlanta! Shoutout to my sister Rachel for making the trip with me on short notice! (Don’t worry, she got a free photoshoot out of the deal!)

The Showit Bus! I absolutely love the fact that there are Bible verses on it!

Not gonna lie… the stage setup was pretty legit.

Meeting Jasmine! (I had a question I wanted to ask her, but I forgot it! I was so nervous haha)

It was great meeting up with some Pursuit 31 ladies there! (l-r: Sarajane, April, Bethany, Joanna, Sunny, Latara)

My first trip ever to the Cheesecake Factory! (props to Sarajane for the brilliant idea!)

Tuesday morning, right before heading home, Rachel and I made a trip to Cami Cakes, and amaaaazing cupcake shop! yummmm!

Pretty successful trip, if I do say so myself : )
